Federal Government has ordered every account holders in any financial institution to re-register despite Bank Verification Number. The federal government of Nigeria has ordered every account holders in any financial institution (banks, insurance companies and others) to obtain, complete and submit a self-certification Forms to their respective institutions despite bank verification number. The forms, according to a tweet from a verified account of the FG explained that the forms are required by the relevant financial institution to carry out due diligence procedures in line with the personal income tax regulation 2019. The tweet reads: this is to notify the general public that all accounts holders in financial institutions are required to obtain complete and submit self-certification forms to their respective financial institutions. “Persons holding an account in different financial institutions are required to complete and submit the form to each one of the institutions. The forms are required by the relevant financial institution to carry out due diligence procedures in line with the income tax regulations 2019. It noted that failure to comply with the requirement to administer or execute this form attracts sanctions which may include monetary penalty or inability to operate the account. The self-certification form is in three categories which are: - Form for Entity – For Controlling Person (Individuals having controlling interest in a legal person, trustee, etc) – Form for individuals. The Government strongly warned the general public as a whole to try their possible best to comply with the requirements and execute all forms needs, adding that failure to meet up will attract monetary penalty or inability to operate the account.
